MuniRem® › What it treats
Pyrotechnics (fireworks and flares)
What Pyrotechnics (fireworks and flares) is, and how we evaluate it with MuniRem®.
What it is
Pyrotechnics are fireworks, flares and signals. They are mixes of oxidizers (such as nitrates or perchlorates), fuels such as metal powders, and colorants. Expired stock builds up and can ignite easily.
How MuniRem® treats it
MuniRem lists pyrotechnics among materials proven in its projects, and says a mobile fireworks and flares treatment unit is in development. Perchlorate oxidizers in some flares need a separate, biological step, so each product needs a treatability study.
- Tell us the material, amount and where it is.
- A sample is bench-tested in a treatability study.
- An EPA-certified laboratory analyzes the results.
- Full-scale work is planned only if the results support it.
This material is evaluated case by case with a treatability study before any full-scale work.
What it becomes
Depends on composition, Confirmed by treatability study.
Where it's found
Fireworks distributors, marine and road flare stockpiles.
