Red, pink and yellow process water
What Red, pink and yellow process water is, and how MuniRem® treats it, in plain language.
What it is
Pink water is wastewater from loading and washing TNT and RDX munitions. Red water comes from TNT purification, and yellow water is tinted by picric acid or TNT. It is regulated and often polished through activated carbon, which then becomes explosive-laden itself.
How MuniRem® treats it
MuniRem states it has treated red, pink and yellow water, and degraded explosives in water, including pink water, to non-detect. It also treated spent activated carbon from pink water treatment. A stirred-tank reactor with three polishing columns is used.
- Process water goes into a stirred reactor, and MuniRem is added.
- The dissolved explosives are reduced within minutes.
- The water is polished through reactive columns.
- Lab testing confirms non-detect before discharge or disposal.
What it becomes
Nitrogen gas, Formate & acetate, Carbon dioxide & water, Sulfate (from the reagent).
Where it's found
Load, assemble and pack plants, TNT manufacturing and demilitarization washout.
