MuniRem® › What it treats

Nitroglycerine

What Nitroglycerine is, and how MuniRem® treats it, in plain language.

What it is

Nitroglycerine (NG) is a liquid explosive used in dynamite and double-base formulations. It is very sensitive to shock and can seep from old dynamite, or soak into wood and concrete in old process buildings.

How MuniRem® treats it

MuniRem states its reagent neutralizes nitroglycerine on contact, converting it to non-hazardous wastewater. MuniRem lists NG among explosives it treats in manufacturing clean-up.

  1. MuniRem solution is sprayed on or mixed with the NG-containing material.
  2. NG is neutralized on contact.
  3. The nitrate ester groups are reduced by the sulfur-based reagent.
  4. An EPA-certified laboratory tests the treated material before any disposal decision.

What it becomes

Non-hazardous wastewater, Nitrogen gas / nitrite, Sulfate.

Where it's found

Old dynamite, NG process buildings, drains and sumps.
