MuniRem® › What it treats

Chlorinated compounds

What Chlorinated compounds is, and how we evaluate it with MuniRem®.

What it is

Chlorinated compounds include solvents such as TCE that were used for degreasing, plus some pesticides. They sink into groundwater and are long-lived and toxic.

How MuniRem® treats it

MuniRem says its reagent treats chlorinated solvents and pesticides in soil, sludge and groundwater. It describes injecting MuniRem solution into groundwater to destroy explosives and chlorinated solvents together. No compound-specific test data was found.

  1. MuniRem solution is injected into groundwater, or powder is mixed into soil.
  2. The reagent's free radicals attack oxidized organic compounds, including chlorinated organics.
  3. MuniRem states the reaction also creates reactive aquifer solids for longer-term treatment.
  4. An EPA-certified laboratory tests the treated material before any disposal decision.
This material is evaluated case by case with a treatability study before any full-scale work.
